INTERVIEW BY LOCAL UNIVISION NEWS REGARDING CRUELTY TO UNHOUSED IMMIGRANTS
Maryland House and Senate Legislature
March 5, 2025 - Higher Education, Antihate & Antidiscrimination Policies & Workgroup
Excerpts of testimony to State of Maryland Senate Proceedings Education Committee - March 5, 2025
"...The problem is the failure of UMCP (Univ. of Md. College Park) & USM (Univ. Systems of Maryland) to address and enforce anti-hate, it is not the expressive activities."
This has been an eternal problem, and this is why:
"On September 19, 2023, I attended the Central Maryland Hate Bias Reporting Forum, organized by the MD commission on civil rights. At the meeting I realized the disparity and prejudice that exists within the statewide advocacy organizations on hate bias reporting. I was the only brown Immigrant Latina present at the meeting. Not one university parent or their college student were present. Absent were USM chancellor staff, and state representatives listed on this bill’s Working Group”.
UMCP & USM failure to address and enforce anti-hate, it is not expressive activities.
"Present were the parents of First Lt. Richard Collins III who was killed by the 22-year-old University of Maryland senior Sean Urbanski on campus. Mr. Collins was just standing on a sidewalk, he was not part of any expressive activity."
One sided and selective lobbying.
"What I also witnessed at the forum is the massive representation of systemic antisemitism lobbying and its direct connection to the police and policing. Let it be clear I am in support of antisemitic regulations and policies. What I am clearly stating is that there is a blatantly established disparity in advocacy on behalf of the rest of us underserved humans who experience “Other forms of Racial Ethnic and Religious violence, harassment, and intimidation”, as poorly written on the bill.
We “the OTHER” are not driving this public safety effort, we are ignored, despite being in the frontlines of death and hate.

Re: Taking the day off from work – Participation in a Peaceful Civic Action 2/3/2025: A day without Immigrants
Dear [Employer's Supervisor Name],
In solidarity and in support with my Immigrant community, I am informing you that today Monday, February 3, 2025, I am taking the day off, to join millions of fellow immigrants across the nation in a collective peaceful action. I made arrangements to ensure the workload is not affected in my absence. I will be back to work on Tuesday, February 4, 2025. I apologize for the late notice. This collective action responds to the policies being implemented by the current govt. administration
A day without immigrants is a peaceful action to raise awareness of the vast economic and societal benefits that are sustained by immigrant labor and our civic participation. On this day we immigrants are staying home from work, school, closing our businesses, and refraining from consuming. We will fully follow all local laws and regulations during this action.
Thank you for your support and understanding.
Warm regards,
